What You Need
Fragrance free soap
Clean paper towels
Warm water
Fragrance free aftercare such as Aquaphor or A&D
Fragrance free lotion
What to Do
Wash your hands
Wash your tattoo with fragrance free soap and warm water
Pat - don’t rub - your tattoo dry with clean paper towel
Apply thin layer of approved ointment as instructed by your artist to your tattoo and switch to fragrance free lotion after 2-3 days.
Repeat 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks or until tattoo has finished peeling
Avoid tight or abrasive clothing over the tattoo as it heals. Anything that rubs or traps moisture can irritate it.
Choose breathable, loose-fitting fabrics if the tattoo is covered by clothing.
Derm Shield Instructions
Keep it on 1-3 days… fluid build up is normal
When removing, gently pull back over the bandage… best done in the shower. Do not pull up and way from the body.
Keep it moisturized as needed with fragrance free lotion.
What Not to Do
Do not scratch, pick, peel, or touch the tattoo. If it itches, gently apply lotion. Never scratch!
Do not use petroleum jelly, heavy ointments, or anything scented.
Do not submerge your tattoo in baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, etc., before it is down healing (about 2 weeks)
Do not expose your tattoo to prolonged, direct sunlight until tattoo is fully healed. Do not apply sunscreen until the tattoo is healed; after healing, sunscreen helps preserve color.
Do not get your tattoo all sweaty… allow 2 days before you hit the gym. Avoid excessive sweating or friction at the site.
Signs of Infection
Redness and light peeling are normal.
If you experience excessive redness, swelling, warmth, pus, or fever, contact your healthcare provider.
